soaps

I think this web page is very interesting.

http://www.cleaning101.com/sdalatest/html/soapchemistry1.htm

From this web page, I learn that chemistry plays a huge role in “effective cleaning”. Indeed, shampoos, soaps, detergents, etc are all products of chemistry reactions. Without Chemistry, how are we going to wash our bodies every day? Without Chemistry, wouldn’t our house be in a horrendous state? These are some of the reasons why I would love to learn Chemistry. I want to learn how people make soaps.

Finally, I suggest you watch this video, which shows how organic soaps are made. What an eye-opener!!!

Blog Update No. 1 (Mr. Truong)

1196

Last week, I had a conversation with a rising junior named A.R from Worcester Academy.

Mr. Truong:
Are you taking Chemistry this year?
A.R:
No, I’m taking Physics. Chemistry is not useful at all. Physics actually helps me understand natural phenomena such as why things fall, how hurricanes are formed, etc.
Mr. Truong:
Well, you are certainly not aware of the amazing effect Chemistry has on every part of nature and our lives. Let me tell you …

Your first job is to do some basic research on what Chemistry is, and in your own words, write a paragraph of 5-10 sentences helping Mr. Truong convince A.R of the benefits of learning Chemistry. It will be much more convincing if you can include at least one example, with pictures and Internet links to the information you obtain.
